The Officers

We are a small team of dedicated students with a deep desire to help students understand financial matters in a fun environment. We love what we do, and we do it with passion. We look forward to working with you.

Avinash Kumar

President

I am a junior at James S. Rickards High School and am very passionate about Math and Economics. As the President of Money Matters, I strongly believe that a fundamental understanding of how to plan financial matters can help lead students to eventually have prosperous lives.

When I learned that my school does not offer any personal finance classes, I was curious about how much the community knew about basic personal finance. To find the answer to this question, I decided to conduct a research study for publication. My results indicated that people in our community (both students and adults) possessed insufficient knowledge of basic financial skills such as saving, budgeting, investing, loans, taxes, etc. In response to this bewildering discovery, my brother and I launched Money Matters in our school to enlighten students about saving money, making wise investments in the stock market, tracking daily/weekly spending and curtailing it to stay within their budgets, planning for college expenses and more!

Other than this, I enjoy being the President of Charles Xavier’s Royal Chessnuts Academy (Chess Club), Parliamentarian of Future Business Leaders of America, and a proud member of Key Club and Model United Nations.

Akash Kumar

Vice President

I am currently a junior at James S. Rickards High School. I cofounded the Rickards Money Matters Club with my brother because, while understanding finance is becoming more and more important in our world, many people are highly misinformed about finance, and our schools do not have k-12 level classes on financial skills. The goal of our club is to create an environment in which students can easily learn about important financial skills.

Outside of Money Matters, I am also the Vice President of the Chess Club and an active member of other clubs such as Key Club and Model United Nations.

Outside of school, I am conducting research for publication on misconceptions about heart disease. I hope to one day become a socially responsible physician who helps the less fortunate. In the United States, everyone has the right to vote on major issues, and I want to reveal truths about major diseases to the general public so that they can make more informed judgements on health- related policy positions.

Aside from my research, my hobbies include swimming, playing piano, singing, practicing Tae Kwon Do, and spending quality time with my family.

Hi, my name is Ravi Doman, I am a sophomore and secretary of Money Matters club. I started with this club as just a member, but in realizing how interesting and necessary the topics in the club are for students to know about I was happy to step up and become a bigger part of the club. Outside of MOMA, I have had other past experiences managing and participating in clubs such as Robotics Club, Chinese Club, Key Club, Science Olympiad, and Chess Club.
